What does it take to change a city? Mayors, city councils, planning and zoning commissions, the police, community organizers, and a host of civic organizations and nonprofits have been wrestling with that issue for years. And yet, historically, communities have been transformed. Crime rates have dwindled, unemployment and poverty have been reduced, high school graduation rates have improved, and more. How has this happened? More often than not, it’s because of the church and its involvement in the city. We shouldn’t be surprised, though. The scriptures promise as much.
