On the Third Day of Christmas … Three French Hens and the Holy Family
On the third day of Christmas my true love gave to me … Three French Hens. Some have said the three represent the Trinity. Others that they stand for the holy family – Joseph, Mary, and Jesus. The truth is … they probably represent three of the finest (and tastiest) edible birds that the lyricist could come up with. In any event, Sunday, December 27th is the third day of Christmas, but it wasn’t until the eighth day after the birth that Joseph and Mary left Bethlehem and took their son to the temple for the first time. Although “Christmas” was over, the celebration of life was just beginning.
